OVER-RATED RIDES

Re: OVER-RATED RIDES
To me, the most under-rated ride I've experienced is the Great Nor-easter at Morey's, Wildwood NJ. Sure, it's just a Vekoma SLC, it bangs you around and all. But, it's a custom SLC that seems faster and even more brutal than any others, to a TRANSCENDENT level. That may be just the lubrication from the salt spray, because it's on the beach! 5 inversions facing over the Atlantic! Plus intertwined with other rides... haven't been for years though, as there's only 3 large coasters and it's far away. That includes trying out the new seats, which it got because it's the best-maintained SLC in the world since it's basically the "biggest" ride there (and for operation in that environment, it IS big). When it's flying, it seems like the train is trying to force it's way through every element faster than the element was designed to allow (which results in many strong laterals to the right when inversions start turning into brakes). Also, plenty of night riding, sometimes to 1 AM 8)

also Underrated: Avalanche. Not big, steep or awesome, but does produce a good "out of control" sensation at moments.
Manhattan Express, Vegas: Not a GREAT coaster, but I didn't find it rough at all, despite endless complaints. Crowd also seemed to love it (although this was after some wait while they added a train -- at 11:30 PM !).

Not many overrated's, because my impression is people complain a lot, if people don't like it it's probably underrated because it don't suck. 1 exception, Steel Force at Dorney, some like because it's smooth, but although fast it's boring. I probably didn't give it a chance but I don't see it matching high ratings.

Re: OVER-RATED RIDES
Stormrunner is a little overrated.....the last part of the ride gives a load of neck chopping which ruins the whole ride for me

King's Dominion is the best amusement park around, don't let anybody tell ya different

Great NorEaster is underrated mostly because most people think "Oh,it's just another SLC",despite it's good maintanence and new trains-which I've been begging SFA to do for Mind Eraser for years now!
And as for Manhattan Express-was there any roughness to the ride? And how where the trains? My curiosity comes from my love/have relationship with Great Adv.'s Viper(may it RUST IN PIECES  );supposedly Manhattan Express was intended to be Viper, and the ride Great Adv. actually got was the prototype straight out of TOGO's workshop  .

I don't see that rumor working, Manhattan definitely was somewhat fit to the building, although it could be transplanted to the ground. It drops and curves around the front of NYNY casino, tall but not reaching ground level, fairly exciting but over fairly fast. It then has a trick section on top of the roof at the right rear of the building, with several unusual inversions, somewhat strange on a "big" coaster because it's slow and smallish. It then continues with a speeding path through part of the building, end. It's been 3 years (?), 1 ride, so I can't remember a whole lot. The restraints are a bit strange but not bad. Trackwork is reasonable. Probably the complaint is of inversions such as a half-heartline into a half-loop, which does hang you by the restraints but not rapidly or roughly, as that goes.

I rode Viper too and really liked it, although that was even longer ago and I'm not sure what that would do to my body now. Also still like Shockwave, speaking of Togo, what an overbuilt ride ... although the transitions are rough, it seems designed that way because each roughness is almost exactly matched to the others. Several look scary because you know they're going to be rough but aren't quite as bad as you see coming.

As to Storm Runner, yes it does bash your neck old-305 style but still excellent (and it way beats Fahrenheit). It's kind of a newer Volcano, about the same speed and height, better launch and design but Volc's inverted seating, mega-curve and 2nd launch help make up a lot of difference.

Hulk is my all time favorite ride. I hate to say it but I think Dominator is a little overrated. The first drop just does nothing for me.

Re: OVER-RATED RIDES
I personally don't think Volcano is over-rated, but could see why some would say it is. Volcano had the potential to be an incredible ride, but after shooting out of the top of the mountain it is plain boring. It is still one of my favorites but could have been more.

Re: OVER-RATED RIDES
I think they were pretty limited with the space they had due to using the mountain. I don't know what they could have done differently other then maybe making the final drop a little better. I agree with the fact it isnt overated.

Re: OVER-RATED RIDES
Not sure what they could have done different either with the limited space between Avalanche and FOF. Making the ride longer with more inversions would have helped the ride seem less boring after shooting out of the top.

And it cost 20 million dollars... making it longer would be a lot of money.
